Behind the Scenes: This Month at Seekology - May

Oxford Street pop up

We love creating interactive customer experiences at Seekology, so having to close during the pandemic has been hard. So we were extremely excited to create a pop up in central London, right on Oxford Street (the most famous shopping street in the world?). 14 brands, 12 meet the maker sessions, numerous free samples and many customers later we had so much fun we extended for an extra day.

We had a few special customers from the retail world, including Bill Grimsey, retail veteran and author of the Grimsey Report, who has made it his mission to save the High Street and drive to a more community based High Street, as well as Founder of Enterprise Nation, Emma Jones, a champion of independent brands. Supported by Sook, our pop up featured 14 beauty and wellbeing brands, specially curated for the occasion by Seekology’s Founder Rebecca.

If you missed out and couldn't make it - fear not: here’s our round up of the pop up, from the best products to our in store experiences as well as some updates on what else we’ve been up to so far in May.

Bestsellers and new products

Of course, we’re all still wearing face coverings, and we at Seekology (and customers at the pop up) love Silk Works London’s face masks. A bestseller at our pop up, the black version of these 100% Mulberry Silk Face Masks sold out during our pop up on Oxford Street.

The lightweight silk is gentle on your skin, lets your skin breathe (no more maskne) and still protects you and others, as well as featuring an inner pouch to add a filter. Available in Ivory, Pink and Black shop Silk Works London’s face mask here

Another best selling brand at our pop up was Koisi, designer of luxury bedding and pyjamas. Made from 100% organic and sustainable bamboo fabric, the bedding is soft on your skin and keeps you cool at night. Customers were remarking on how soft it feels, as well as the beautiful subtle mother of pearl button fastening - get your dream bedding for restful nights here

Supriya, Founder of Koisi, expanded her bedding line into pyjamas, which are made from sustainable cotton. They are hand-crafted and screen printed in India, where pyjamas originate from and in unusual prints, colourways and shapes for a bit of luxury (in fact, we know some of our customers wear them all day! Shop our favourite pyjama sets here.

Our pop up customers were also loving scented candles, especially the Interlude Wild Mint Soy Wax candle, which is perfect for calm spring and summer evenings and features wild mint and silky white tea (and soy wax, of course).

A continuing hit at the pop up was the Venus Bust Candle by Interlude, inspired by the Roman goddess of love, beauty, prosperity, fertility and victory. This candle celebrates the female form, features essential oils and is made from 100% natural soy wax. Light it up and appreciate the wax trickling down the body or use it as a decoration like Seekology’s Founder Rebecca (“it’s a great talking point on zoom calls” she says), as it throws a subtle scent even without being burned. We also found that customers loved meeting our brand founders, especially to learn about skincare. Joanna from Elan Skincare visited several times to showcase her natural products that work to nourish your skin. One of the bestsellers was the Pure Goodness Body Butter, which is packed with plant butters, oils, and waxes, carefully selected to care for sensitive and/or dry skin.

In-store experiences

Joanna also launched a brand new product at the Seekology pop up. The Whisper Skin Saviour Calm + Protect is an all natural, anti-inflammatory balm boasting Aloe Vera, Green Tea and Virgin Coconut Oil to fix dry skin and can be used on lips, hands and body. Shop Whisper here

Another big hit with customers was some fabulous glitter demonstrations by Sophie from Eco Glitter Fun. Sophie’s glitter is made from bamboo cellulose - so it’s 100% biodegradable, as opposed to most cosmetic glitters which are plastic based and end up in the ocean. We enjoyed glitter on our faces, wrists and hands for the day.

Shop all colours of Eco Glitter including Sophie’s custom blends from gold to pastel hues.

Seekology in the press

Seekology has been getting great coverage in the press recently! From our article on the BBC, where Rebecca talked about the future of retail and supporting independent brands, Rebecca was also interviewed recently by blogger Julia from Fresh Beauty Fix  on all things beauty, including some of her favourite products and brands such as Saltee, Meadow Skincare and Fable Yoga.

Seekology was also featured in Richmond Park MP Sarah Olney’s Community Spotlight, highlighting Rebecca’s work to keep on supporting independent beauty + wellbeing brands through this challenging time.

Thanks for reading - we hope you enjoyed our May update, and look forward to sharing more of Seekology’s story with you soon!
